For over 20 years Toe River Project Access (TRPA) has served residents of Mitchell and Yancey counties by linking them to health care services and health related resources. In 2022, TRPA expanded to include residents of Avery County.
A vital resource for our mountain communities, TRPA helps people navigate community services and find the support they need to improve their wellbeing. We help people navigate health insurance options including the ACA Marketplace, Medicaid and Medicare, and link them to other community resources that help them achieve and maintain good health. For those unable to access health insurance, TRPA helps connect people to low-cost options for primary and specialty care, prescription medications, behavioral health services.
Toe River Project Access provides comprehensive support and assistance for our participants’ physical, behavioral, and social health including:
✔Affordable health insurance through the ACA Marketplace, Medicaid and Medicare
✔ Assistance accessing primary and specialty care services, regardless of health insurance or ability to pay
✔ Assistance navigating healthcare options and community resources
✔ Prescription medication assistance
✔ Low-cost options for vision and dental services
✔ Help applying for financial assistance for outstanding medical bills
✔ Free income tax return assistance as a certified VITA site
✔ Referrals to Community Resources that meet essential needs
Who Toe River Project Access Serves
Toe River Project Access provides support to all residents of Avery, Mitchell and Yancey Counties. (Some resources we refer to may have additional criteria.)
